Mindsets and Methods: I am the Medium

Varying mindsets and methods exist for creating art:

Some people create with the end result in mind and use technical methods as the vehicle towards a masterpiece. I know art students whose training is just so superb that they produce enviable results. I admire them for their commitment to a process and for learning the principles of what makes something beautiful.

Some make art is an act of self-fulfillment- a hobby or an urge. These artists might show their work but more often I see them cherishing their paintings- giving them as gifts to a few select friends.

Some artists use their work as a voice for their opinions- a platform for change. “The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible” as Toni Cade Bambara says. What better way to impact and shift the world than through art?

Me, Erika Rachel? I can relate to each of these mindsets, but when I collaborate with others or work with a brand my method is to be the vehicle for someone else’s expression- a partnership.

When someone wants a custom piece- if you love your home, your city, your business, or even your dog, and want me to use that subject as inspiration- it can amplify my creative process to new heights of joy and meaning.

Or for on-location painting- I turn on and tune into my senses on a very deep level, taking in every detail of the surroundings. The beauty, energy, intention, vibe, colors, atmosphere, and meaning of what surrounds me gets transmitted into my work and results in something authentic and beautiful.

If you’re interested in working together please get in touch. I’d love to hear your idea and what inspires you.
